The summer is the perfect time for you to tailor and organise your portfolio, build your network and strengthen your social media activities. This is a great way to find out and share information about your area of interest.
So, let’s imagine. You’ve researched your industry and your ideal role, what next?
Build a strong portfolio
Do you have a portfolio? This usually showcases the work you have done to date. Whether it’s big or small, illustrate your strength, talent, style and how you are unique!
Create a personal blog or website that allows people to find out more about you.
As with all industries, networking is very useful. Knowing more people and having more people know about you can only be a good thing.
Start with your contacts. What places are they going to? Are there any events taking place that you can use as an opportunity to network? BAFTA and Creative Skills are just a couple of places you should consider to build your network and find out more about your chosen industry.
Have you only been using Facebook? Or even tweeted recently? Heard of LinkedIn?
Social media is a powerful tool you can use to build YOUR online brand. This can demonstrate the range of activities you have taken part in and provide a space for you to share your ideas. Whether it’s a short film or script, or even to develop links and collaborations with people in your chosen industry.
It may be worthwhile to consider what your favourite artist/actor does – how have they branded themselves online?
There are many social networks available for you to use to your advantage. The Careers and Business Relations team deliver workshops on LinkedIn and Twitter to help you make the most of social media.
